What is MMA for teens?
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) combines stand-up technique with ground technique into one complete combat sport. At ARTES Sportakademie in Kriens near Lucerne, we teach MMA for teens aged 12 to 14 in its own training group, built specifically for this age.
Training covers controlled punches and kicks, the fundamentals of clinch work and ground fighting, and respectful conduct toward training partners. Pace, contact intensity, and drills are designed specifically for this age group, not simply scaled down from adult training.
At the same time, MMA for teens is about far more than technique. It demands focus, self-control, and the ability to handle effort and setbacks: skills that carry well beyond the training mat.
Why this age matters
Between the ages of 12 and 14, a great deal changes at once. The body develops, testosterone levels rise, energy and drive look for an outlet, and identity itself is being renegotiated. This is exactly the age when many teenagers look for direction, and not every influence they encounter is a good one.
This is where ARTES steps in. Our MMA training for teens is not a scaled-down adult program; it is built specifically for this stage of life. We channel the natural drive for movement and challenge into discipline, respect, and a winning mindset: real performance paired with fairness and self-control, not ego.
In this way, MMA offers a demanding, meaningful alternative to the many distractions teenagers face at this age. A teenager who learns to control themselves on the mat carries that skill into school, family life, and friendships.
What your teenager learns in MMA training at ARTES
At ARTES in Kriens, training for teens centers on combining physical and mental development.
Physically, teens learn the basics of boxing and kicking, distance control, simple clinch situations, and early elements of ground fighting. Coordination, conditioning, and core strength develop naturally alongside. ARTES Sportakademie | MMA für Jugendliche | SEO und GEO Freigabefassung
Mentally, we work on focus, frustration tolerance, and a healthy relationship with winning and losing. Teenagers learn to set goals, stay with them, and see setbacks as part of the process rather than as failure. This is the foundation of what we call a winning mindset at ARTES.
Who is MMA for teens suitable for?
